The
Division of Child and Family Services assists families to
become self-sufficient by providing nurturing, safe and
supportive programs for families with children birth through
middle school age. Its programs help low-income families
meet their children's educational, social, nutritional,
and health needs and encourage parents to participate fully
in shaping these programs and services to best meet their
needs. Last year, the Division served nearly 10,000 Greater
Lowell children and their families.
The
programs that fall under the Division of Child and Family
Services consist of Center Based Child Care at three convenient
locations in Lowell including The James A. Houlares Early
Learning Center, Children's Village at the Mill, and Children's
Corner; Family Based Child Care at more than 80 homes within
Greater Lowell and the Wakefield area; the WIC program offering
nutritional education and food vouchers to women, infants,
and children under the age of 5; and After School Programs
for middle school children at ten sites across the city
of Lowell. Also included is CTI's YouthBuild
Program YouthBuild provides education and economic opportunities
to low-income youth, ages 16 - 24, who have dropped out
of school, through GED instruction and hands-on training
building affordable housing for their community.
The
Division of Child and Family Services employs almost 200
staff in numerous sites throughout Greater Lowell and in
the Wakefield area. For more information about any of the
programs, call (978) 459-0551.
