How
does the CPC help Early Childhood Educators in the Greater Lowell
area?
The CPC holds monthly meetings to advise members of the services
we offer to families each month, to review state legislation,
and to discuss the latest research in the early childhood field.
The CPC sponsors low cost or free monthly workshops for area
professionals on a variety of topics. Recently, the CPC held
its first Early Childhood Educators’ Quality Institute,
designed to share information about recognizing developmental
disorders, working with parents and managing staff.
What
else does the CPC do for area providers?
When funding permits, the CPC offers financial assistance
to area preschool teachers and family childcare providers
to help them afford college training courses. The CPC is providing
financial support to several childcare programs in the Greater
Lowell area that are testing Second Step – a violence
prevention program designed by the Committee for Children.
Second Step promotes such social and emotional skills as empathy,
impulse control and anger management as critical tools for
the futures of all children.
Additional
member benefits:
If CPC members have questions or concerns about the behaviors
of a child within their program, they may request a series
of classroom observations from the CPC’s Education Services
Coordinator. The Coordinator will work with parents and teachers
in designing a plan that reinforces children’s strengths,
while also building skills children need to achieve success
with peers, with adults, and in life.
